About this press

What it is

A press for flashcards. It draws the cards in the page you are reading and writes the PDF in the same place, so the sheet on screen and the file you download are the same drawing made twice rather than two guesses at each other.

What leaves this page

Nothing you type. The pairs you paste into the box on the flashcard maker page are read by code running in your browser and are used there. There is no account, nothing to log in to, and nowhere for anything to be stored.

The register

This is the part worth knowing and it is why the site exists. Printing the fronts of a flashcard sheet is easy. Getting the answers to land on the backs of the right cards is not, because the sheet gets turned over between the two passes and the cards move.

Turn a sheet about its long edge and the left column becomes the right one while the rows stay where they are. Turn it about its short edge and the top row becomes the bottom one while the columns stay put. The press lays the backs out in the reverse that matches, and which of the two it should use depends on your printer, so it is a control. Flipping the same sheet twice puts every card back where it started, which is why one setting can undo itself.

What it will not say

It has no idea what age a deck suits, how long anybody should spend on one, or whether flashcards work. It is a press. It knows what is on a card, how many cards there are, how big they come out and what the file weighs, and those are the only things stated anywhere on this site.

Black ink

Everything prints in black except the colour deck, which cannot, and which is built so that it still works when it comes out grey.

The limits

240 cards in one go. Type no smaller than 9 pt and no larger than 64 pt. A4 or US Letter. If a deck will not fit inside those, the press says so and stops rather than handing over something that will not do.
