States and capitals flashcards

All fifty states with their capitals. 50 cards on 7 sheets, and a control to ask the question the other way round.

Fifty cards

The state on the front and its capital on the back, or the reverse. Eight to a sheet is 7 sheets and 14 pages with the backs. The card is 95 by 69.3 mm. The type is the smallest on this site, 31.8 pt on the front and 33.12 pt on the back, because Massachusetts has to fit and every card in the deck is set to the same size as the longest one in it.

Sized per side

The two sides are measured separately, which is worth a sentence here because this is the deck that shows why. Massachusetts is on the front and Boston is on the back. Sizing both sides to the longest string in the whole deck would set every capital in the pack smaller than it needs to be, for no reason other than that a different word on a different side was long.

The capitals are not the big cities

That is most of what makes this deck worth drilling. New York’s capital is Albany, not New York. California’s is Sacramento, not Los Angeles. Half the cards are only difficult because the obvious answer is wrong.
